Scared of deleting? Good

There's no trash can with rm. The moment you hit Enter, the file is gone. No confirmation dialog. With rm -rf, an entire directory vanishes in an instant.
If that scares you, that feeling is correct. The more experienced the engineer, the more carefully they handle delete commands.
In practice, you run ls before rm to check what you're about to delete. Especially with wildcards. Before typing rm *.log, run ls *.log to see exactly what will disappear. That one extra step prevents disasters.
Fear is the seed of caution. As long as you feel that healthy fear, you won't cause a major incident.
The habit of asking yourself "Do I really want to delete this?" is the ultimate safety net.
