Here's a secret: even professional engineers rarely write regular expressions from scratch. Searching for "phone number regex" or asking AI to generate a pattern is perfectly normal. But they don't just blindly copy and paste. Because they can read [0-9]{3} and think "three digits," they can judge whether the pattern actually fits their needs.

In other words, being able to read regex matters far more than writing it from memory. If you know what [0-9] and ^ mean, you already have that skill.
